Together with my mother and another friend, we went yesterday and checked out this small Japanese restaurant in Far East Plaza after a recommendation from Jamie. Melissa arrived first and a queue was already forming outside the restaurant just before it opened at 5.30pm for the dinner crowd.
The restaurant opened before we reached there and Melissa told the chef we were on our way, but she got a rude shock. "No waiting! No waiting!," the chef shouted at Melissa and forced her out until we came.
The inside of the restaurant
When we arrived, we quietly went in and took our 3 seats around a u-shaped table meant for 16 persons. Everyone in the restaurant was quiet, apparent at the chef's temper.
We saw from the menu that we had to order from the chef by telling him the dish number. Feeling pressured, Melissa penned down all our orders in her planner. By then, another long queue was already forming outside the restaurant.
The chef then started to take the orders from all 16 customers in a single file without having the need of an order pad.
Melissa happened to order a shrimp sushi which wasn't available and got shouted at by the chef again. I was really shocked this time at his attitude. Samura! The chef then asked her to repeat the order sequence. This time, battered by the ordeal and losing her appetite, she ordered only 1 plate of the Inari for herself.
Mum took the Saba Teishoku and I took the Sashimi Teishoku, which was a Sashimi set served with hot rice, miso soup and fruits.
Melissa's 2 pieces of Inari came first which she ate up and left immediately, being disgusted at the sight of the chef. She went shopping while waiting for us. Hahaha!
My Sashimi Teishoku
The chef did my sashimi and skillfully sliced out the big chunks of fish meat. Ohhh... it was so fresh and good and the Maguro (tuna) was especially fabulous. Imagine the meat just melting away in your mouth. It was just awesome.
Mum had a good time with her food too, which I also tried some of it. Wow! It came with a sudden burst of tangy flavour in my mouth.
The food was excellent but we couldn't take more of our time to enjoy. We had to quickly eat and leave so as to help ease the queue building outside the restaurant.
Put the chef's attitude aside, I will be back again soon to have a go at the other dishes.
