Large-tailed Nightjar

The bird in the photograph, which I took just now while walking out of my workplace, has been around every night without fail for three weeks. It would either be on the electric wires, the tree branches or the turf in the same area. Its eyes reflect light with a glare as you can see in the photograph.

It was only after an intense research did I manage to identify it as a Large-tailed Nightjar Caprimulgus macrurus, a common nocturnal bird in Singapore. It is also called the Tok Tok Bird because of its calls like knocking wood. In Malay, it is called Tukang Kubur/Kayu (Grave-digger bird/Woodcutter) or Burung Segan/Malas (Shy/Lazy bird).
